Joseph D. Hutchinson papers, 1863-1991, (bulk 1928-1983)

Collection contains Joseph D. Hutchinson's research files (which contain correspondence, photographs, audio-cassettes, transcripts, clippings, periodicals, and printed materials), correspondence between Hutchinson and the United Airlines pilots and personnel he interviewed, and audio-cassettes and transcripts of Hutchinson's interviews of United Airlines and pilots and personnel. Collection also contains United Airlines memoranda, photographs of United Airlines aircraft and personnel, clippings, postcards of aircraft, miscellaneous printed materials (mostly published by United Airlines), and miscellaneous periodicals. Collection also holds a photocopied diary kept by Arthur Hutchinson, a few photocopies of letters written by Arthur Hutchinson, and a photocopy of a Hutchinson Ranch financial ledger. A 16 mm film entitled "Flying Cadets," a few aviation artifacts, and a few aviation books are in this collection as well.

Joseph D. Hutchinson was an airline pilot and amateur aviation historian during the twentieth century. Hutchinson flew for United Airlines between the 1930s and 1960s. After his retirement, he interviewed retired United Airlines pilots and personnel and did extensive research on the history of United Airlines. He also did some research on his uncle Arthur Hutchinson, who was one of the owners of the Hutchinson Ranch near Salida, Colorado during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. ...
